Employment OpportunitiesAssistant Manager for Retail/Wholesale Nursery and FarmRetail/wholesale operation needs Assistant Manager to work closely with owner to implement his vision for providing customers with a unique shopping experience. The nursery focus is on growing large trees, perennials, and conifers for wholesale and retail landscaping installations and customers. The nursery highlights aquatic plants, fish, and pond supplies (pumps, skimmers, filters, liners) for water feature installations. The nursery/farm includes nursery stock, a variety of livestock, and birds for display during special events. Proven ability to manage staff and take direction from an entrepreneur required. Education and ability to ID trees, and nursery stock required. You will need to train, coach, and educate the sales staff on proper identification and care of the nursery inventory in the field and retail area. It is a hands on position that requires the manager to possess the ability to create a team-working environment, work with customers, make sales, and perform general nursery duties. Must be enthusiastic about learning about the water garden side of our nursery. Must be good with animal care. Speaking the Spanish language is a plus in this industry. Since the nursery is open seven days a week, your availability to work most weekends is required. You need to be a hands on manager of two full time and three to five part time employees. You must be able to lift 70 pounds in order to teach staff by example, work with staff on projects, and assist customers with removing trees from display beds and loading customer’s vehicles. You will get dirty, cold, wet and work outdoors most of the year! The retail nursery is in the middle of our second season and experiencing growing pains. The right person will have the flexibility to start now and be the key to our future growth. Being able to see and keep your humor during times of stress is essential. Retail Sales PositionsIf you enjoy caring for plants, working with customers, and work well in a team, this outdoor position may be for you. Ability to identify plants is a plus but willing to teach if other qualities are met. Part time to full time positions are available. Must be able to work weekends. Grounds Person with carpentry/general repair/maintenance experienceJob will require work on various building projects, equipment maintenance, as well as daily feeding of livestock on nursery property.
